Story

Trener (The Coach) is Wroclaw's most dedicated sporting dwarf, stationed on the grounds of the Academy of Physical Education (AWF) on ul. Mickiewicza. He has supposedly been coaching dwarf athletes for decades — never missing a training session, always with a whistle around his neck and a clipboard in hand. Rumour has it that several of Wroclaw's finest athletic dwarfs owe their medals to his drills.

History & Significance

Trener (also noted as 'Wvefiaczek' in some records) stands on the AWF campus, the University of Physical Education in Wroclaw. The Academy on ul. Mickiewicza has been a centre of sports science and athletics in Lower Silesia for decades, training generations of Polish Olympic athletes. The dwarf reflects the sporting heritage of the institution.

Inspiration

Wroclaw has a whole trail of sports-themed dwarfs, including Biegajlo (runner), Wioślarze (rowers), Alpinki (climbers) and Ciężarowiec (weightlifter). Trener fits naturally into this athletic family as the coach who puts all the others through their paces — the unseen force behind every podium finish.

Fun Facts

  • Trener is part of Wroclaw's impressive roster of sports-themed dwarfs, which also includes a runner, rowers, climbers, and a weightlifter.
