Old Oak by the Pond

Welcome to Park Szczytnicki and to one of the oldest trees in Wrocław! This oak grows by a little bridge over a pond. Its trunk is about 5.5 metres around - it takes three or four grown-ups holding hands to hug it - and its heavy old branches are tied together with steel cables so they don't break. Since 1945 it has been called Jan Stanko's Oak. The park itself was started in 1783 as one of the first English-style landscape parks in continental Europe. Autumn treasure no. 1: the Acorn.
