Story

Adrianek Przedsiębiorca sits with his chin resting on his fist, deep in thought, as if working out his next business plan. In the photo this bearded dwarf in a snug rounded cap has big ears and a wry open-mouthed smile, and he is set on grey paving against a cream-coloured wall. He stands at plac Powstańców Śląskich 1, about 2.3 km south-west of the Market Square.

History & Significance

Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. According to wromap.pl, Adrianek Przedsiębiorca was made by Grzegorz Łagowski and stands at plac Powstańców Śląskich 1. I found no source that gives his unveiling date and none that names a sponsor. wromap.pl also lists two dwarfs, Thespianek and Ortognatek, within 20 m of him that I could not find in the city database.

Inspiration

Przedsiębiorca means entrepreneur in Polish, and the pose of a dwarf with his chin on his fist suggests a thinker. No source I found explains the idea behind Adrianek, so I cannot say who or what he honours.
