Story
Luminator is a reader. He sits quietly with an open book on his knee, and a leaf has landed on the page as if he has been there through a whole autumn. Above him spreads a broad dome-shaped canopy on a stem, which keeps off the rain and gives him a little reading room of his own at the corner of Sudecka street. Do not expect him to look up; the story is clearly too good.
History & Significance
wromap.pl gives the author as Tomasz Moczek, the sculptor of the original five Wrocław dwarfs of 2005, and the date 24 October 2008. Wikipedia's list also credits Moczek and links the dwarf to Tauron Obsługa Klienta, the energy company's customer service office on Sudecka street. The sources disagree on the address: wromap.pl says Sudecka 95/97 and Wikipedia says Sudecka 96/97. A monogram that looks like the letters TM can be seen on the canopy in the photo. The tradition began with the Orange Alternative, a playful 1980s protest movement whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.
Inspiration
The available sources do not explain the name or say who commissioned the dwarf. His position next to the Tauron customer service office and the nearby Tauron-sponsored Energetyk Voltuś suggest an energy theme, but that is an inference. What the photo shows is a dwarf reading a book under a dome-shaped canopy.
