Agorek

Serbska 5A

Story

Agorek is Wrocław's resident artistic soul, perched in front of the Centrum Kultury Agora cultural centre at ul. Serbska 5a in the Karłowice-Różanka district. This creative little bronze figure paints, sings, sculpts, and above all loves moulding tiny clay dwarfs in his spare time — and he holds the Agora logo close, proudly keeping an eye on whatever is happening inside. Installed in May 2010, Agorek is the dwarf equivalent of a festival programme — always curious about what the next vernissage or rock concert might bring. His cheerful presence reminds visitors that Wrocław's dwarf tradition is about much more than the city centre; art lives in every neighbourhood.

History & Significance

Agorek was installed on 19 May 2010, sculpted by Marcin Łuczkowski — one of the most prolific artists behind Wrocław's dwarf collection. He was commissioned to celebrate and represent the Centrum Kultury Agora, a vibrant community cultural hub that hosts exhibitions, concerts, workshops, and theatre events at ul. Serbska 5a. The name 'Agorek' is a playful diminutive of 'Agora,' echoing the ancient Greek agora — a public gathering place for community and culture. Like all Wrocław's dwarfs, Agorek descends from the legacy of the Orange Alternative movement, whose dwarf graffiti on city walls in the 1980s evolved into today's beloved bronze figures.

  • Agorek lives 2.8 km from the city centre, proving that the dwarf hunt takes you far beyond the Rynek and into Wrocław's lively neighbourhoods

How to Find This Dwarf
