Story

Meduś is a warm, bearded dwarf with swept-back hair and a pointed ear peeking out from under it. He sits upright and looks straight ahead with a soft smile. A printed logo or lettering runs across his shirt, and one hand rests on a round object at the lower edge of the frame. He wears the look of someone who has just been told it is lunchtime.

History & Significance

Meduś stands at Żmigrodzka 81-83 in Karłowice-Różanka. The sources I could check name neither the sculptor nor the date it appeared. The dwarf tradition began in 2001, when the Orange Alternative monument (Papa Krasnal) was unveiled on Świdnicka street, and the city has kept adding bronze dwarfs ever since. The sources I found do not say who commissioned or sponsored it.

Inspiration

The sources I found do not say who made Meduś, when he appeared or who sponsored him. The lettering on his shirt is only partly legible in the photo, so I do not read it out. The name may be related to medicine or to 'miś' (bear), but that is a guess.
