Story

Akceptacja is a gentle dwarf lady who gives herself a warm hug, a small reminder that being kind to yourself is a skill worth practising. She lives at ul. Parkowa 42, near the Szczytnicki Park, and greets anyone who needs a calm moment on their walk. Legend says she keeps a pocket full of kind words and hands one to every visitor who stops. Try the dwarf test: tell her one thing you like about yourself, and see if she smiles back.

History & Significance

Akceptacja appeared on 12 October 2022 at ul. Parkowa 42, which is also listed as 42/1a. She was created by sculptor Marlena Zakrzewska. The dwarf was made for the fifth anniversary of the Institute of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (ITPB) in Wrocław, which welcomed her as a new member of its team. She is one of the newer dwarfs in the city and, like all of them, belongs to the tradition that began with the Orange Alternative, the 1980s protest movement that painted dwarfs on walls. Since 2005 Wrocław has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs.

Inspiration

Akceptacja stands for mental health, psychotherapy and self-acceptance. The institute that commissioned her works with cognitive behavioural therapy and wanted a friendly symbol that makes talking about emotions feel normal. By embracing herself, the dwarf reminds us that self-care and self-love matter, especially when everybody around says we should do more, be more and do it faster. Her name is the Polish word for 'acceptance'.
