Story

Kapitan Odruś is a dwarf in a captain's peaked cap with a round badge, a magnificent curled moustache and a bushy beard, wearing a buttoned jacket. He stands in a small courtyard-like corner with pale walls and mixed paving, looking every inch like the skipper of a ship that never leaves port. Salute him as you pass.

History & Significance

Kapitan Odruś stands at Parkowa 30 in the Zacisze-Zalesie-Szczytniki district. Wromap.pl names the sculptor as Marlena Zakrzewska and gives the date 14 November 2025, which makes him one of the newest dwarfs in the city. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement founded in the city in 1986 by Waldemar Fydrych, whose members painted dwarfs on walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

The captain's cap and jacket make the theme clear, but we found no source explaining why a captain stands here or who sponsored him. His name starts like 'Odra', the Oder, the river that flows through Wrocław - that is our reading of the name, not a documented fact. He stands only about 30 m from Piastek, the dwarf at the school next door.
