Story
BEAnka II is a weathered, sea-dog sort of dwarf. In the photo he wears a broad-brimmed hat like a fisherman's sou'wester, has a thick moustache and beard, and a tiny bronze bug crawling on the tip of his nose, which he seems to ignore completely. He stands at Krawiecka 1, the second of a pair, with BEAnka I elsewhere in the city. Leprokonus is just 35 m to the north.
History & Significance
Wromap.pl lists BEAnka II (alternative name Automatek II) at Krawiecka 1, made by Tomasz Moczek and appearing on 8 October 2013. The first dwarf, BEAnka I (Automatek), is listed by wromap.pl as made by Tomasz Moczek too, dated 4 September 2013, but it is far from here. The Polish Wikipedia list has a single BEAnka at Krawiecka 1-3, by Tomasz Moczek, with the sponsor Justin Center, at exactly the coordinates used here; it is unclear whether Wikipedia means the first or the second dwarf. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful anti-communist protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. The first bronze dwarf, Papa Krasnal, was unveiled in 2001, and in 2005 the city commissioned sculptor Tomasz Moczek to make five more, which started the collection that now numbers well over 800.
Inspiration
The name BEAnka and the alternative Automatek point to a brand or business at the address, and Wikipedia names Justin Center there, but no source says which statue it sponsored, so I do not claim a link. The bug on the nose is a detail from the photo.
