Story

CeWuBeKuś is a cheerful, bearded dwarf with a pointed cap that flops to one side and a wide grin under his moustache. In the photo he is holding out a metal plate with lettering on it, as if he is about to show you something important, and a pot of flowers stands behind him. His name is an acronym, spelled out letter by letter in the Polish way: Ce-Wu-Be-Kuś.

History & Significance

The address for CeWuBeKuś is ul. Weigla 5, according to wromap.pl, which also notes that access may be limited by a gate, fence or barrier. wromap.pl gives no sculptor and no appearance date for him. Wrocław's dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the first bronze dwarf was placed on ul. Świdnicka in 2001, and hundreds have followed since. We found no source that explains who commissioned him or what the letters in his name stand for.

Inspiration

The name CeWuBeKuś is built from letters read aloud in Polish, which is how many dwarfs named after companies and institutions get their names. We could not find what the letters stand for, and the lettering on the plate in the photo is only partly visible, so we do not claim to know.
