Story

Etteplanek stands in the lobby of an office building, a bearded dwarf with a thoughtful face and a rounded cap topped with a little stalk, like a beret with a knob. Behind him is a bright blue column and a big window onto the courtyard, so he has a view of the engineers who come and go. He looks like a dwarf who has just finished a long, careful calculation and is quietly pleased with the result.

History & Significance

wromap.pl credits Piotr Makała and Marta Mirynowska, dates the dwarf to 26 June 2016 and gives the address Legnicka 48G in Business Garden, saying he is inside the building. The engineering company Etteplan signed a lease for about 2,000 square metres of office space in Business Garden on Legnicka street, according to the trade news site Eurobuild CEE. The tradition began with the Orange Alternative, a playful 1980s protest movement whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

The name looks like a diminutive of Etteplan, the engineering and technology company that rents office space in Business Garden. The sources do not say outright that Etteplan commissioned the dwarf, so that link is an inference from the name and location.
