Story

Frugalek is a cheerful, moustachioed dwarf with a long upturned moustache and a pointed cap whose tip flicks out sideways. He leans forward with both hands resting on something in front of him, grinning, as if he were about to count the day's takings. He is inside a building, behind a glass front, on a dark grey floor.

History & Significance

Frugalek is at Legnicka 49gb in the Pilczyce-Kozanów-Popowice Północne district. Wromap.pl names the sculptor as Marlena Zakrzewska, gives the date 9 January 2021 and says the dwarf is inside the building. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement founded in the city in 1986 by Waldemar Fydrych, whose members painted dwarfs on walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

The name 'Frugalek' looks like a diminutive of 'frugal' - the thrifty dwarf - but that is only our reading of the name. We found no source confirming the sponsor, the story or what he is holding, so we do not claim any.
