Story

Komisia i Euruś are a pair of dwarfs who share a spot at Widok 10. In the photo, Komisia peeks out from a window recess under an umbrella dotted with stars, and she gazes upwards as if checking the weather. Her partner Euruś is not visible in the wromap photo, so keep an eye out for him on site. Marysia Pięknisia lives just 26 m to the north, which makes this a good double stop.

History & Significance

Wromap.pl lists the group at Widok 10 and names Grzegorz Łagowski as the sculptor; it gives no date of appearance and I found no second source for either the author or a date. No sponsor was found. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful anti-communist protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. The first bronze dwarf, Papa Krasnal, was unveiled in 2001, and in 2005 the city commissioned sculptor Tomasz Moczek to make five more, which started the collection that now numbers well over 800.

Inspiration

No source explains the names. Both sound like short forms of 'Komisja' (commission) and 'Euro', and the umbrella in the photo is decorated with stars, which echoes the stars of the European flag, but this is my reading of the name and the photo and no source confirms it.
