Story

KrasnoLuter is the scholar of Kazimierza Wielkiego Street. He holds up a little tablet carved with tiny symbols and looks as if he is about to read it out loud to the nearest passer-by. Legend says that he has been editing the same page for years and is never quite satisfied with the wording.

History & Significance

KrasnoLuter is listed on wromap.pl at Kazimierza Wielkiego 29 and credited to Tomasz Moczek; it dates him to 29 October 2017 and also gives the alternative name Reformatorek. I found no second source for the author or date. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful anti-communist protest movement: on the nights of 30 and 31 August 1982 Waldemar 'Major' Fydrych painted the first dwarfs on walls in Sępolno and Biskupin. The first bronze dwarf, Papa Krasnal, was unveiled in 2001 on ul. Kazimierza Wielkiego, and in 2005 the city commissioned Tomasz Moczek to make five more, which started the collection.

Inspiration

The name plays on 'Luter', the Polish form of Luther, and the alternative name Reformatorek points to the Reformation. His date, 29 October 2017, falls two days before the 500th anniversary of the traditional start of the Reformation on 31 October 1517, but I found no source that states this was the reason for the commission. In the photo he wears a soft cap and holds up a relief tablet, like a book or a notice board.
