Story
Lunetyk sits with a big banded tube cradled in his arm, like an old sailor with a spyglass. His broad-brimmed hat is pulled down and his beard is long, and he looks ready to scan the horizon for the next dwarf. Wide stone steps lead down beside him, which makes a good spot for a pause.
History & Significance
Lunetyk stands at ks. Piotra Skargi 1 in Wrocław's Old Town. wromap.pl credits Tomasz Moczek as the sculptor. The same site lists the appearance date as 29 May 2018. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grow out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.
Inspiration
'Luneta' is the Polish word for a spyglass or telescope, and the large tube he carries fits his name, though we found no source stating his exact inspiration. No sponsor is documented.
