Story
Piwożłop looks like a dwarf who knows exactly where the best beer in the Rynek is poured. In the photo he reaches out with one arm, his eyebrows raised, a long beard streaming over his chest and a pointed hood pulled over his head. His name sounds like 'beer guzzler', and his companion has a name to match: Pieseł Piwosz, 'little dog Beer Drinker'. Bend down by the doorway at Rynek 41 and see whether you can spot who he is greeting.
History & Significance
Wromap.pl and Wikipedia agree that the dwarf is by sculptor Beata Zwolańska-Hołod at Rynek 41, Wikipedia adding that it stands at the Kamienica Pod Złotym Psem (Golden Dog House). Wromap.pl dates the dwarf to 24 February 2016. The sources do not name a sponsor. The tradition behind Wrocław's dwarfs began with the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.
Inspiration
The name, built from 'piwo' (beer) and a word for gulping, and the dog Piwosz point to a dwarf who enjoys beer. The sources do not say who commissioned the figure, so no brand is claimed. It is a pleasant coincidence that the building behind is named after a golden dog.
