Story

Stefan Namastek has stretched both arms high above his head and pressed his palms together, wearing a big, peaceful grin that says he has all the time in the world. He stands at Podwale 37/38, where a shop sign with the word "namaste" can be seen behind him in the photo. Copy his pose for your family photo and see who can hold the smile the longest!

History & Significance

Stefan Namastek is listed at Podwale 37/38 in Wrocław's Old Town. wromap.pl names Marlena Zakrzewska as the author and also lists him under the alternative names Joginek and Jogin. We did not find an appearance date or a sponsor in any source. Wrocław's dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful, peaceful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

His raised, joined palms recall the yoga and greeting gesture known as namaste, and the nickname Jogin is the Polish word for a yogi. No source states who or what he was made to honour, so the page does not claim a specific origin.
