Story

Trakuś is a smiling dwarf with curly hair and a thick beard who proudly holds out a model of an electric locomotive standing on a short stretch of railway track. Every window and detail of the little engine is modelled in bronze. He is inside a bright building, by tall windows, and looks like a railway fan showing off his newest toy.

History & Significance

Trakuś is at aleja Lipowa 3 in the Borek district. Wromap.pl names the sculptor as Marlena Zakrzewska, gives the date 8 October 2022 and says the dwarf is inside the building. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement founded in the city in 1986 by Waldemar Fydrych, whose members painted dwarfs on walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

The model locomotive on a piece of track in his hands points to railways, and his name resembles the Polish 'trakcja' (traction) and 'trakt' (route). That is our reading of the name; we found no source confirming the sponsor or the idea behind him.
