Story

UEFek is a football dwarf with a grin from ear to ear. He wears a pointed cap with a floppy tip, has a bushy beard, puts one hand on his hip and holds up a tall trophy-shaped cup, with a crest on the front of his shirt, in front of a bright green wall. According to the city's news site, he was a bit of a prankster before the 2025 UEFA Conference League final: he hung flags around the city, painted walls in the stadium, took the cup out of its display case and finally froze in place with a ball under his foot, waiting on the grounds of the Tarczyński Arena stadium.

History & Significance

UEFek was made by sculptor Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and appeared on 17 May 2025, according to wromap.pl and OpenStreetMap. The city's news site wroclaw.pl reported him as a new dwarf in the lead-up to the UEFA Conference League final, which Chelsea and Real Betis played at the stadium on 28 May 2025 at 21:00; it was described as the fourth final in the competition's history and the first in Poland. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since the early 2000s the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them, many in the quieter districts far from the Market Square.

Inspiration

UEFek was created to mark the 2025 UEFA Conference League final in Wrocław, as the city's news site explains, and his name plays on UEFA, the European football association, whose name also appears as an inscription in OpenStreetMap. The cup in his hand and the crest on his shirt show his link to the competition. We found no source naming a sponsor beyond the city's own announcement.
