Story

Websiterka and Odlewnik are a duo indoors, behind glass. In the photo, taken through a window, we can see a bearded dwarf in a flat cap gripping a long tool as he leans forward at work, while a second shape appears in the reflection. Their names give the game away: Websiterka is a coined 'website' dwarf and Odlewnik is the Polish word for a foundry worker, so this pair seems to mix the digital and the metal.

History & Significance

Websiterka i Odlewnik stand at Wagonowa 14 in the Muchobór Mały district. Wromap.pl names the sculptor as Grzegorz Łagowski, gives the date 6 December 2016 and says the dwarfs are inside the building. It lists the pair as a group of two: Odlewnik and Websiterka. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a peaceful, absurdist protest movement founded in the city in 1986 by Waldemar Fydrych, whose members painted dwarfs on walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

The names point to the theme. 'Odlewnik' is the Polish word for a foundry caster, a metalworker, and 'Websiterka' looks like a feminine form built from the English 'website'. We found no source saying who sponsored the pair, so we do not name one.
