Story
Bissolek is a dwarf who has found his favourite seat and refuses to give it up. In the photo he reclines in a little metal frame with a crooked, contented smile, goggles pushed up onto his pointed cap, ready for any adventure that might wander past. His big nose catches the light, and one eye is half-closed as if he were about to wink. Say hello, and he might just do it.
History & Significance
Bissolek appeared on 29 May 2025 at Tadeusza Kościuszki 95/1U and was made by Marlena Zakrzewska. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has been filling its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. He is one of the newest dwarfs in this batch. We found no sponsor and do not name one.
Inspiration
Nothing we found explains the name Bissolek, so we do not guess a meaning. The photo shows a smiling dwarf in a pointed cap with round goggles pushed up on it, seated or reclining in a metal frame beside a glass door, with a strong nose and a short beard.
