Story

Brokuś Mariusz is a dwarf in a rain-hat with a brim, who rests his chin on one hand and studies a cut-out metal plate held in the other. In the photo his face is thoughtful, with a short beard, and the plate in front of him has curving openings, a little like a map. Two other dwarfs stand almost right next to him, so he is never alone in his thinking.

History & Significance

According to wromap.pl, Brokuś Mariusz was made by Marlena Zakrzewska and stands at ul. Na Ostatnim Groszu 3; it gives no appearance date. Wrocław's dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; the first bronze dwarf was placed on ul. Świdnicka in 2001, and hundreds have followed since. PM-emek and Termiś Syty i Kobuś Czysty stand within a few metres of him. We found no source that says who commissioned him or what his name refers to.

Inspiration

We found no source that explains Brokuś Mariusz's name or the meaning of the plate in his hand, so we describe only what the photo shows: a thoughtful dwarf studying a cut-out metal sign. The names of the neighbouring dwarfs suggest a themed group, but we found no source stating the theme.
