Story

Empatia is a girl dwarf with pigtails and a cheerful, wide-open smile, holding up a pair of binoculars whose lenses are shaped like hearts. Looking through them, she sees the world with kind eyes. She sits on the pavement outside a glass-fronted building on Bolkowska street, and you can almost hear her telling you to look around and notice the people near you.

History & Significance

wromap.pl credits the sculptor Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and dates the dwarf to 4 September 2025, giving the address Bolkowska 3. That makes her one of the newest dwarfs. No second source for the date or any sponsor was found. The tradition began with the Orange Alternative, a playful 1980s protest movement whose members painted dwarfs on city walls; since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them.

Inspiration

The name Empatia means empathy. The sculpture shows a girl looking through binoculars with heart-shaped lenses, which fits the idea of seeing other people with warmth. The sources do not say who commissioned her or what exactly she was meant to illustrate.
