Story
Hydrosolarek looks up with a determined face, his chin lifted and his nose pointing at the sky, while one hand grips a heavy metal tool with a hinged jaw, much like a pipe wrench. He has short curly hair, a rough, cast beard and a worn grey-green bronze surface, and he stands beside the wall of a metal-clad building at ul. Szczecińska 19 in Leśnica. OpenStreetMap says he is to the left of the entrance door of the Shi wholesale outlet, reachable during the company's opening hours.
History & Significance
Hydrosolarek was made by sculptor Tomasz Moczek, according to wromap.pl and OpenStreetMap, which gives April 2020 as the start date. Wromap.pl gives no date. Wrocław's bronze dwarfs trace back to the Orange Alternative, a playful protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since the early 2000s the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them, many in the quieter districts far from the Market Square. The address, ul. Szczecińska 19, is listed as the location of Hydrosolar Sp. z o.o. Dolny Śląsk in a business directory, which suggests the company is behind the dwarf, but we did not find a source that says so directly.
Inspiration
The name echoes Hydrosolar, the group whose branch is listed at ul. Szczecińska 19. The company's description says it has served builders and contractors for 30 years through 90 sales points, with SHI points acting as self-service warehouses where installers buy products from the shelf. The tool in the dwarf's hand fits that installer world, but no source describes the statue's design.
