Story

Innowator stands on ulica Na Grobli, about 1.7 km east of the Market Square, with his arms thrown high in triumph. In the photo this bearded dwarf holds two big jigsaw-puzzle pieces above his head, as if he has just fitted the last missing piece into a puzzle nobody else could solve, his mouth open in a shout of delight. Imagine him rushing out of the workshop to show the street his latest brainwave, with a fresh idea to share with anyone who walks past.

History & Significance

Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. According to wromap.pl, Innowator was made by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod and stands at Na Grobli 12. I found no source for the date he appeared or for who commissioned him.

Inspiration

His name means innovator, and the puzzle pieces he holds aloft suggest fitting ideas together, but that is my reading of the photo. No source I found says what organisation or idea he is meant to represent.
