Story
Strażnik Miejski stands guard on ulica Na Grobli, about 1.8 km east of the Market Square, and he takes his duty very seriously. In the photo this bearded dwarf wears a peaked uniform cap with a badge on the front and carries a shield with lettering and a coat of arms on its face, in front of a warm red-brick wall. Imagine him patrolling a street only as long as he is, checking that every other dwarf has parked correctly and ready to hand out a very small fine.
History & Significance
Wrocław's bronze dwarfs grew out of the Orange Alternative, a playful, non-violent protest movement of the 1980s whose members painted dwarfs on city walls. Since 2005 the city has filled its streets with bronze dwarfs, and there are now hundreds of them. wromap.pl gives the address Na Grobli 14/16 for Strażnik Miejski but names no sculptor and no date, and I found no other source that does. Nobody I could find names a sponsor.
Inspiration
His name means city guard or municipal police officer, which matches his uniform cap and the shield with a coat of arms in the photo. The sources I checked do not say whether he honours a particular institution or was simply made as a dwarf version of the job, so I do not claim a specific dedication.
